Gordon Ramsay’s PR disaster – writing an open letter to his mother-in-law

In a desperate attempt to get PR, TV chef Gordon Ramsay has written an open letter his mother-in-law, published by The Evening Standard, highlighting further family problems.

This follows events last week in which he sacked his business partner and father-in-law, which prompted a letter to be sent to his wife Tana from her mother, Greta, asking her to stay away from her own family.

The open letter by Ramsay begins “This has to be one of the most painful letters I’ve ever had to write.”

He goes on to criticise the letter his wife’s mother wrote, calling it ‘awfully wrong’ and saying that sacking his father-in-law was ‘one of the hardest’ and ‘most important’ decisions of his life.

He writes, “I know how hard this must be for you Greta, and I’m not expecting a birthday card, but [you’re…] punishing your daughter and our four children, for all the wrong reasons, it’s so sad. She’s an amazing woman and you’ve been a fantastic mum please don’t stop!”

Speaking to The Telegraph about sending the letter to be printed in a national newspaper, PR expert Mark Borkowski described it as “a terrible idea” and questioned how it may affect the chef’s career in the US, saying that what goes on behind the closed door of a family should never be aired in public.
