The PR Guru

March 22, 2013

What a fantastic day we’ve had at Action for Business today!

We were concerned about the weather and the impact it would have on our turnout, and it did have an impact – a convenient excuse for some people perhaps?

We clearly can’t control the weather though and I honestly think the day couldn’t have gone any better, despite Mother Nature’s interference!

We had about 100 people in the room and there was great feedback on the way out about the presentations, the keynote from Chris Daffy, and the SteelStyle Young Enterprise team from St Joseph’s College.

Can’t wait to see the images and film.

The highlight for me was Chris’ speech.

The thing that stuck with me was the influence of Sir Clive Woodward on Team GB’s performance last year – he made tons of little changes to the approach, from giving the cyclists battery-powered ‘hot-pants’ to keep their muscles warm before racing (allowing them to gain a small – but in many cases winning – advantage at the start), to providing a pillow designed specifically for each member so they could get a slightly better sleep.

If we can emulate them and make 1% improvements in all areas (marketing, customer service, production, delivery etc) it will have a massive effect on our results.

Anyway, Chris will be sending his slides over to us over the next few days, so keep an eye on the Staffordshire Marketing Academy website for more information.

The Academy will be back again in the Autumn for Action for Business 6 – keep the 25th October free for more great advice on how to market and develop your businesses!

  1. I agree with you Richard. It was a great event and innovative in its approach via the Marketing MAKEOVER for Stormking Plastics Ltd. Paul Wlikinson, their Sales Director, wants to invite the team back to explore our marketing ideas more which is testament to the value any business can get from the ACADEMY.

Despite the weather every single presenter, organiser, stageing and AV crew got there and performed with their usual positive and upbeat style. Well done everyone :))
