It’s Monday all over again!

Another weekend has been and gone, which means another two days of great news!

As usual there’s plenty from Staffordshire, but if you want us to chat about your story then why not tweet us with the hashtag #saysomethingpositive?

EVER FANCIED TRACING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY?

Us too! But one local man has actually done it.

Auctioneer Tom Spencer-Andrew has tracked down his GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT grandfather.

The trace took 18 months.

On second thoughts, it seems like a lot of work…

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS GO DOWN FABULOUSLY

Trentham Gardens’ annual light switch-on attracted more than 8,000 visitors last Friday.

The schedule was jam-packed with local music talent – and of course Mr and Mrs Claus made an appearance!

EXTRA SHOPPING TIME!

Or other things like sightseeing, business meetings…you get the gist.

Virgin Trains are set to introduce a new late service from London to Stoke-on-Trent.

You can find even more great stories just like these by searching for Staffordshire news online. Lets keep up the pride in our county!

POTTERIES CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON

Don’t forget that the Hanley Christmas lights switch-on is tonight!

It’s going to be a dry one but also very cold! Brrrr! Take care to wrap you and your family up warm!

BULL STATUE GIVEN BRIGHT RED BAUBLES THIS CHRISTMAS

The Uttoxeter  bull, situated near Town Meadows Way, has been given a bright red set of Christmas balls by pranksters – just in time for the festive season.

Stunts like this can serve as an excellent source of PR as they grab the public attention instantly.

DON’T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA

This week EVITA the musical has taken to the Mitchell Arts Centre stage.

It will be showing at 7:30pm until Saturday as well as a 2:30pm matinee on the 23rd November.

You can get your tickets here.

WAHHHH!

That scream was for the one and only ROD STEWART, who is coming to the Britannia Stadium next summer

He will be performing as part of a 5-venue tour.

So, where do we buy the tickets?!

FILM FESTIVAL GOES DOWN A TREAT

The Bottlecap Film Festival was held recently in Newcastle-under-Lyme

The event was attended by former Staffordshire University student and Oscar winner, Peter Bebb.

We love to see a Stokie done good!

Just because the weekend is over doesn’t mean the positive things are!

OFFICIAL STOKE VAMPIRE DEATH INSPIRES AUTHORS HAND

Retired detective, John Pye, has picked up his pen to write a novel based on the death of a Polish man in 1972.

The death is the only one in the UK that has officially been attributed to a  vampire.

John was sent to deal with the incident and found the man surrounded by small bags of salt and crushed garlic.

ARTIST CELEBRATES VICTORY WITH EXHIBITION

Sue Law-Webb was one of the protagonists that helped save Stoke-on-Trent’s Civic Centre from closure.

The artist has painted 12 buildings from across the city and is hosting an exhibition to celebrate Stoke’s historic buildings.

You can see these images at Theartbay Gallery, Christchurch Street, Fenton.

CINEWORLD COMES TO STOKE-ON-TRENT

Cineworld will be coming to Stoke-On-Trent in the new leisure complex.

Development is due to start in 2014 and finish in 2015.

Cineworld are the only cinema-chain that offer an UNLIMITED card, where members pay £15.90 per month to see as many films as many times as they wish.

This is great news for the local movie-buffs!

Will you use the new Cineworld? Tell us at info@richardswancottassociates.co.uk and we’ll shout and support their new venture.

WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND! #SAYSOMETHINGPOSITIVE

It’s a brand new week and we can’t wait to see what great stories we find!

Don’t forget, if you have a positive story you can get in on the action by Tweeting with the hashtag #saysomethingpositive

LAURA MEETS HER POPSTAR IDOLS

Local girl Laura O’Brien has featured on everyone’s favourite tear-jerker of a show, Surprise Surprise.

The brave sister was lucky enough to meet her favourite band – Little Mix.

Is it weird to say we’re jealous of a 12 year-old? We love Little Mix here in the office…

RAILWAY PLANS GET THE THUMBS UP

Residents have given their support to plans to bring trains back to Leek.

The plans could boost the town’s economy by 1 million.

WE LOVE THIS GREAT ROUND UP OF CHILDREN IN NEED EVENTS IN STAFFORDSHIRE

The County always does its bit for charity, and this year was no exception.

Take a look at what went down!

Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see what’s going on in Staffordshire – we love to #saysomethingpositive!

STOKIES ARE A CHARITABLE BUNCH! #SAYSOMETHINGPOSITIVE

Stoke and North Staffs are brimming with positivity at the moment!

We want you to take to Twitter and #saysomethingpositive. We also want to know what you love about the area in our itsy bitsy survey.

THERE’S NO-VEMBER LIKE MO-VEMBER

Kyle Yeo has made it his mission to raise money for Movember, regardless of people’s ability to grow a moustache.

The 20-year-old has set up a studio in the canteen at Newcastle-under-Lyme College and is getting both men and women to wear novelty moustaches and have headshots taken for a small donation.

He is going to use the photographs to raise awareness of Movember.

SPODE HAND IS ALL FIRED – UP!

Just the other day we told you about the community project that was set to commemorate the heritage of Stoke and its potters.

Now it has been unveiled.

We think it’s a great way for the community to team up and get involved!

OPERATION  CHRISTMAS CHILD – THE SHOEBOX APPEAL

There’s just four days left for you to participate in the annual shoebox appeal.

‘What’s that?’ I hear you say! Operation Christmas Child is the opportunity to give a deprived child in a Third World country a Christmas present.

All you have to do is wrap the shoebox in Christmas paper and fill it with goods such as toys, sweets, and soap – trivial things that you wouldn’t normally think about. Then you drop it off at a collection point ready for its international journey.

Various local firms, including Signal Radio, Cross Rhythms Radio, and Shoe Zone are taking part. You can find more information and your nearest point on the official website.

Are you doing something charitable this Christmas? Tell us at info@richardswancottassociates.co.uk and we’ll shout and raise awareness.

STAR OF STAGE AND SCREEN PUTTING MITCHELL’S CHRISTMAS SHOW TOGETHER

We can’t wait for Rock Nativity!

The brilliant show is coming to the Mitchell Arts Centre next month, and local media outlets rushed to the press launch to interview West End star (and Rock Nativity producer) Tom Goodridge.

We’ve got our tickets already!

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN…

The time when millions of people across the country are doing their bit to raise money for Children In Need.

Of course it’s no different here in Staffordshire, with local students having a good old PJs day for the cause!

FORMER MASTERS WINNER EXCITED ABOUT NORTH STAFFORDSHIRE VENTURE

We wrote a couple of weeks back about a new golf course partly run by ex-Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam.

Well the man himself has spoken out about his excitement for the centre. He’s not the only one!

That’s it for today folks! Have a great evening and remember to check back in with us again tomorrow for the latest instalment!

#SAYSOMETHINGPOSITIVE 12TH NOVEMBER

We went down to The Universal Thrift Club recording studio this morning and had some great fun recording some football chants! More on that to come!

Excellent facilities there, by the way – and Tom and Nathan are a great pair. Give them a shout if you have any music composition, mastering or recording requirements!

We’ve nearly hit our 100 participant target for our survey – yay! But we just need a couple more entries! Help us out folks!

DOG SAVES CAT’S LIFE

It is a universal stereotype that cats and dogs hate each other, but that’s not the case in Endon.

Golden Retriever Toby found injured cat Stewart hidden under a bush and alerted his owners with incessant barking.

It is suspected that Stewart was hit by a car and instinctively dragged himself into hiding.

Get well soon Stewart!

HOLIDAYS ARE COMING …TO HANLEY

A lot of people see the annual Coca-Cola advert as the first sign of Christmas.

Hanley was selected as one of the most joyous cities in a survey and has won the privilege of being visited by the Coca-Cola truck.

The lorry will be in Tontine Square in Hanley on November 29.

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER NOMINATED FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

Sentinel photographer Mark Scott has been nominated for The Press Gazette’s British Journalism Award.

He has topped 300 other entries and has been working as a press photographer for over 10 years.

Good luck Mark!

Will you be seeing the Coca-Cola lorry? Let us know at info@richardswancottassociates.co.uk and we’ll shout about how festive you all are!

#SAYSOMETHINGPOSITIVE CELEBRATES OUR LOCAL HEROES

It’s a brand new week, and once again we’re looking forward to see what positivity we can find in Staffordshire.

LEST WE FORGET

Today is, of course, Armistice Day, and we held our two minutes silence here at RSA.

The area played a huge part in the war effort – not least with the design of the Spitfire by local lad Reginald Mitchell.

All across North Staffordshire people were doing the same to remember our brave soldiers, 13000 of which fell in World War I alone.

More than 1000 turned out in Burslem, with hundreds more showing their respects at Stoke Minster.

We will remember them.

PLANS FOR HUGE ROBBIE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION UNDERWAY

Let’s face it – we all love Robbie here (well, most of us!)

So of course we’ll be celebrating his 40th birthday in style – here in Stoke-on-Trent of course!

Organisers want to fill Robbie’s birthday month of February with exhibitions and Robbie-themed events.

We can’t wait!

WE’RE A TALENTED BUNCH IN NORTH STAFFORDSHIRE…

And we’ve got the awards to prove it – or at least over 200 local children have!

An awards evening at King’s Hall, Stoke honoured their achievements over the last year.

And we spent a couple of hours earlier at the launch of Rock Nativity, The Mitchell Arts Centre’s Christmas production, which will feature a host of local actors.

Got something positive to say about Staffordshire? You can fill in our short survey here!

#SAYSOMETHINGPOSITIVE HITS THE AIRWAVES!

Yesterday we went down to Cross Rhythms City Radio for an interview with Chris Mountford, about #saysomethingpositive. It will be aired on Friday on 101.8FM at 8:10am and 10:10am, so make sure you tune in!

Whilst we were there we were telling people about the campaign and of course plugging our little survey!

TEENAGER FOLLOWS JESSIE J’S LEAD IN CHARITY STUNT

When Jessie J shaved her head in aid of Comic Relief last year, it sent a message to one fan in particular.

13-year-old Madison Ball followed suit, in an attempt to raise £500 for Donna Louise Children’s Hospice. Not only did she succeed, but she managed to raise over £600 for the charity.

It takes a lot of courage for a young girl to undergo such a dramatic change in appearance and she did it for all the right reasons.

Well done Madison!

POP-UP SHOP BECOMES PERMANENT FIXTURE

Those of you who regularly go to Hanley will be delighted to know that ‘Number 26’ has now become a permanent fixture in the town centre following a successful summer.

The shop sells unique, unusual and bespoke gifts, such as nick-nacks and speciality American sweets.

Establishments like this will encourage more people to the city and the fresh, innovative ideas will help Hanley create a brighter, more unique identity.

GIANT HAND TO COMMEMORATE THE POTTERIES

A sculpture of a giant hand will be made to commemorate the heritage of The Potteries.

A local composer, Ellie Davies, organised its creation as part of the Gladstone Fired Up! Project. Each of the contributors will have their name written on the hand.

The hand will be fired at the Spode factory today.

Which community projects are you part of? Let us know at info@richardswancottassociates.co.uk and we’ll shout about how creative and talented you all are!
